/ www.obsidiandawn.comThank you.Numbness
and The Empress
playing / fighting as foals. After Numbness‘ mother, Dirge of Death, had been killed by War Child a good time began. War Child adopted the orphaned filly instead of killing it, too. For the first time in her life Numbness did not fear the contact with others because her foster mother and her foster sister did not hit / bit her whenever they wanted but they treated her like she was one of them. From one moment to another the filly turned from a ‘weak, use- and worthless worm’ – as its mother had called it – into a living creature. Of course Numbness fought The Empress, her foster sister, but it was only a game and they have never tried to kill each other – only small wounds and scratches were results of their ‘fights’. She often lost in the beginning but learned quickly and became stronger due to her training and due to the fact she finally got regularly food and was no longer beaten by Dirge of Death.
Later – after War Child and The Empress have been dead for a really long time and Numbness had been forced to live in exile – those memories were small beams of light in the growing darkness of Numbness’ mind.Gosh! It’s done!!! I really finished this one – I can hardly believe it *has tears in her eyes*.
Ok, enough of my inner drama queen . I started to work on this photo manipulation in December 2012 but lost my motivation directly after I had deepened shadows and light on the foal stock image. Some days ago I decided it was time to finish it because I don’t like having unfinished work in my folder.
The hardest part and the one that took most of the working time was the background because it took like forever until I finally found fitting stock images.
I’m sorry it’s again a very dark image and I know I’m bad at considering the right source of light – but I was in the “I want to finish this damn piece and every more minute I spend on working on this image gets on my nerves.” and in my opinion it's ok.
The darkness in the image symbolizes the darkness of Numbness' mind. She is slowly but constantly losing her fight against oblivion and insanity. The horse skull and the skeleton stand for death. Tools of work
-Photoshop Elements 10 (90%) & Paintshop Pro X (10%)
